Biltmore Estate
Asheville, North Carolina

At Asheville, NC’s, Biltmore Estate, America’s largest private home and a
National Historic Landmark, guests enjoy acres of gardens and grounds
designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. Visitors
can enjoy formal gardens surrounding the 250-room Biltmore House including a four-acre English Walled Garden, a 16th-century Italian style garden with
reflecting pools and a 20-acre azalea garden featuring more than 1,000
azaleas. In addition, there is a shrub garden, lagoon, woodland trails and
an elaborately designed three-mile approach road leading to the house.

Each April, the gardens are featured during the month-long Festival of
Flowers celebration when the gardens take over with 50,000 tulips in the
English Walled Garden, brilliant pinks and reds in the Azalea Garden and
delightful arrangements tucked in every corner of Biltmore House. Later in
the season, more than 80 varieties of roses and summer annuals take the
place of tulips.

In autumn, pattern beds are planted with more than 12,000
chrysanthemums that reflect the golds and plums of fall foliage in the
woodlands. Even when the gardens are wintry, visitors have an opportunity to visit the Estate’s Conservatory, home to a spectacular array of native and exotic plants.

Sheltered in the Cool House on the east side, azaleas, camellias and bulb plants thrive under slightly cool conditions. On the west side, the Hot House shelters tropical flowering plants such as fuchsias, begonias and hibiscus. In the central wing, the Propagation Room highlights a sampling of crops used on the Estate at various times of year. Linking all three wings is the Palm House, where towering palms stretch their elegant leaves.

Other areas include the Orchid Room and the Exhibition Room, which features
changing displays. For more information on visiting the gardens at Biltmore Estate, call 1-800-543-2961 or visit www.biltmore.com.
